5 Makeup Mistakes That Age You!

Makeup I Beautyfeatures.ie

It makes perfect beauty sense that the tricks, techniques and colours that we once applied to our fresh faced 16 year old skin, no longer holds the same promise to our now 35 year old and counting pixel perfect profile. When we were younger and spent many a night wishful 'makeuping' as we tried time and time again to pass unnoticed at our local pub, to now hoping to bear witness to a look of shock and “no way, you’re not that old – are you” as co-workers receive your 40th birthday party invitation! And how do we achieve both of these feats – why with clever makeup of course! So how can we get one step closer to actually having to pull out that drivers license? By avoiding our quick list of the most common make-up mistakes that age you – that’s how!

Clarins Extra Firming Foundation I Beautyfeatures.ie

MISTAKE #1 Loose facial powder.

Avoid the dreaded ‘caked on’ look at all costs. Loose powder can prove difficult for both young and old, and even though it’s easy to apply it can prove a challenge to reverse any mistakes. Loose powder can highlight aging skin, making it appear more lined which is the total opposite of what you’re trying to achieve. So instead of a loose powder, try a liquid foundation like Clarins Extra Firming Foundation SPF15 , which is available in ten shades and instantly smooths the complexion and minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

MISTAKE #2 Blush on the apples of your cheeks.

Liven up a dull complexion with a radiance burst of bronze or a gentle sweep of rosy pink blush to the cheek, or not! Many a make-up blunder is at the colourful hand of incorrectly applied blush to the apples of your cheeks, for as we age the skin begins to sag around the cheekbones and blusher to the cheeks highlights the sagging of the skin. Instead try sucking your cheeks in and gently sweep the blusher above the indent, taking it up and towards your temples. The angle of the blush will help to make your cheekbones more defined.

MISTAKE #3 Dark lipstick

This seasons lip colours are awash with gorgeous deep berry and intense plums, but stay clear of these dark intense shades if your lips are not quite what they used to be. It’s perfectly natural that as we age the lips tend to thin and lose their youthful plumpness, wearing a dark lippy will only highlight the thinness and draw attention to this area. So if you’re not feeling adventurous choose a more flattering shade such as Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Prefector. Not quite a lippy but a gorgeous gloss that delivers a 3D shimmer, luscious, smooth, shiny lips and a natural coloured luminous smile. As a bonus it also nourishes, repairs and protects the lips.

Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer I Beautyfeatures.ie

MISTAKE #4 Forgetting the primer

Did you know the beauty motto “it’s a crime not to prime?” And for skin as it ages not a truer word is spoken. Primer works to smooth out fine lines and deliver a balanced even surface for perfect make-up application. Primer is a must have beauty product for ensuring a more youthful complexion as not only does it preserve your make-up for longer but fills in fine lines and wrinkles, reduces shine and hides blemishes. Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer SPF30 is designed to brighten and prime the skin. Velvety silicone's create an instantly smooth surface. Neutral tint helps balance tone and enhance luminosity and radiance. Peptides and AGE Smart® actives help firm and shield against MMP and free radical damage, as sunscreens shield against sun damage

MISTAKE #5 Long, lifeless hair

It’s a well know fact that gravity becomes your worst enemy as you age. Skin that you weren’t even aware that you had, starts to point southwards and having long, lifeless hair will only add to the sagging effect. However you can of course keep your hair long but have your hairdresser style it in a way

What are your beauty tricks for looking younger? What’s your biggest concern when it comes to aging?
